Retirement reserve
On this page
You can no longer build up a fiscal retirement reserve (fiscale oudedagsreserve, FOR). The government has terminated the retirement reserve to prevent entrepreneurs from using the retirement reserve to get tax relief.
What is the retirement reserve?
If you own a business in the Netherlands, you could accrue a retirement reserve (oudedagsreserve) (in Dutch) by setting aside part of your profit every year. By doing so, you could postpone paying taxes over this amount until retirement. There was a maximum you are permitted to set aside each year.
You could convert all or part of your retirement reserve into an annuity (lijfrente), the premium of which is then tax deductible.
You were eligible for this scheme if you meet the hours criterion and did not reach Sate Pension age at the start of the calendar year.
How to settle?
Since 1 January 2023 you can no longer build up a retirement reserve. Do you currently make use of this scheme? Then you may still add to your retirement reserve. The Dutch Tax and Customs Administration provides more information on how to settle and how to add to your existing retirement reserve (in Dutch).
