Subsidy for a nationally or locally listed building
Do you own a monument or a building of cultural or historical significance? You may qualify for a loan or subsidy for conservation (maintenance), a new designation for or restoration of your monument.
You can apply for the following schemes:
- Subsidy for a new designation of monuments (Subsidieregeling stimulering herbestemming monumenten)
- Subsidy for conservation of national monuments (Subsidieregeling instandhouding monumenten, Sim)
- A loan from the National Restoration Fund
Subsidy for a new designation
Subsidy for a new designation of monuments (herbestemmingssubsidie) can be used for national monuments, provincial monuments, regional monuments, and buildings of cultural or historical significance. The subsidy can be used for emergency measures to prevent decay of the monument. Or it can be used for research to find a new designation of buildings that cannot easily be repurposed. This includes churches, schools or industrial complexes. To qualify for this subsidy you have to meet the criteria for the herbestemmingssubsidie (in Dutch).
Subsidy for conservation (Sim)
With the subsidy for conservation of national monuments, you can cover maintenance costs for monuments that are not used for housing. The Sim conservation scheme's most important conditions are:
- You own a national monument not intended as dwelling, or an archaeological or natural ('green') monument.
- Conservation maintenance, based on a 6-year conservation plan, should be sober and pragmatic.
You have to meet the criteria for the Sim (in Dutch).
Loan from the National Restoration Fund
The National Restoration Fund (Restauratiefonds) offers several low interest loans. You can use these loans to buy, restore or redesignate a monument or to make it more sustainable. Read more about the criteria for loans from the National Restoration Fund (in Dutch) on their website.
