Do you have an SME and does your business contribute to reducing harmful emissions in the aviation sector? And are you doing so with a project aimed at developing technological solutions, innovative concepts and/or new insights within the aviation industry? You may be eligible for the Temporary Subsidy Scheme for Aviation in Transition (Tijdelijke subsidieregeling Luchtvaart in Transitie, LIT).

The Aviation in Transition scheme consists of 4 modules:

  • Knowledge and Test Vouchers
  • Feasibility Project
  • R&D Collaboration Project
  • Module Supporting Research

Knowledge and Test Vouchers

Do you have a ‘knowledge question’ concerning innovation, production processes, or services in aviation? Then you can apply for a Knowledge Voucher. If you want to test your technology or innovation, you can apply for a Test Voucher. The value of each voucher is at most €15,000. If you receive a voucher, you need to hand it over to a knowledge institute, such as a university or research organisation. After that, the knowledge institute can redeem your voucher (in Dutch).

Feasibility Project

Do you want to carry out a Feasibility Project for an innovation project in the aviation sector? You can apply for an Aviation in Transition subsidy to perform a feasibility study on the technical and economic risks of your innovation project. The feasibility study should consist of, for example, a literature study, patent research, or market exploration. You can receive up to 50% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of €100,000.

You have to start your feasibility study within 4 months of applying. And you must have completed the study within 12 months after you started the study.

R&D Collaboration Project

Do you develop or innovate products, production processes, or services in the aviation sector in collaboration with other SMEs? Then you can apply for subsidy for an R&D Collaboration Project. You can receive up to 50% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of € 350,000. The minimum amount for each participant is €25,000 and the maximum amount is €175,000.

Module Supporting Research

Only knowledge institutes can apply for a subsidy for supporting research in the aviation field. If you want to cooperate with a knowledge institute, read more on the Module Supporting Research (in Dutch) or contact the knowledge institute.

What are the conditions?

Knowledge questions, tests, and projects should address:

  • new powertrains
  • electrothermal management
  • new design concepts and design materials
  • ultra-efficient structural components
  • cost-effective manufacturing technologies for new aircraft configurations after 2030

There are a few more conditions for the several modules. Read more about the terms and conditions of Knowledge and Test Vouchers (in Dutch), the terms of the Feasibility Project (in Dutch), and the terms for an R&D Collaboration Project (in Dutch).

How to apply

You can apply for an Aviation in Transition voucher or subsidy to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The modules of LIT have different application periods.
