Rates of independent healthcare professionals
Care providers and care insurance providers must comply with the regulations from the Healthcare Market Regulation Act (Wet marktordening gezondheidszorg, Wmg). This Act states among other things that they must inform their clients about price and quality of the care they provide. It also contains rules about rates, market forces, and market surveillance.
Maximum rates
The Dutch Health Care Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit, NZa) has established maximum rates (in Dutch), which apply to the various independent professionals working in the care sector. These apply to, for example, orthodontists and midwives.
General practitioners (GPs)
For GPs both unrestricted rates and fixed rates apply (in Dutch). This depends on the type of treatment.
Paramedical care
Tariffs for paramedical care are unrestricted (in Dutch). Healthcare providers set their rates in consultation with healthcare insurers. Paramedical care includes:
- physiotherapists
- remedial therapists
- occupational therapists
- speech therapists
- dieticians
