Labelling of non-food products
On this page
Do you manufacture or sell non-food consumer products in the Netherlands? Your product must have a label with mandatory information. For example, what the contents are and how to use it safely.
Also check out the rules for labelling of food.
Requirements
The label of a non-food product must include information on, for example:
- the contents of the product
- how the consumer should use the product safely
- how long the product can be kept after opening
For a number of products or product groups, specific or extra requirements apply for labelling. Check the mandatory label information for:
Checking labels
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit, NVWA) checks whether the information on the label is correct. They can take measures if the information is incorrect or insufficient.
If your product is not listed here, it may not be subject to any additional labelling requirements. If so, you have to keep to the rules for general product safety. Article 2 of the General Product Safety (Commodities Act) Decree (Warenwetbesluit algemene productveiligheid, in Dutch) sets out what your product or the packaging should state.
