What changes?

Do you sell products or services? You have to make sure that these do not involve child labour at any stage. You have to be able to show that you are doing what is needed to prevent child labour.

If people suspect your company is not taking the necessary precautions, they can file a complaint. An inspection will follow. If it turns out your company is not doing enough to prevent child labour, it will be fined. Directors of companies that have been fined several times can be prosecuted.

For whom?

  • All companies selling products and services in the Netherlands
  • Companies based in the Netherlands that sell their products and services online to the (Dutch) public
  • Companies selling online, explicitly targeting the Dutch market

When?

It is not yet known when the law on prevention of child labour will come into force.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the upper and lower houses of parliament or proclamation of the Order in Council (Algemene Maatregel van Bestuur, AMvB) or ministerial decree and publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch).
