What changes?

Are you an entrepreneur in the taxi business? Or are you a taxi driver? There will be a new registration system for taxi rides: the Central Database for Taxi transport (Centrale Database Taxivervoer, CDT, in Dutch). This digital system makes it easier to transmit your taxi trip data and it should make the taxi market safer.

The new CDT system requires taxi entrepreneurs to supply the trip data automatically and immediately to the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport, ILT). You can choose yourself whether you use a device or an app that is suitable for this purpose. This system replaces the current taxi on-board computer (BCT) from which data still has to be extracted manually. The new system will save time and costs, because the data entry and processing are automated.

The CDT allows the inspection to better check whether drivers keep to the working hours and rest times. This makes the taxi market safer. And because the data is shared directly fraud can be detected sooner.

For whom?

  • taxi entrepreneurs
  • taxi drivers

When?

The change to working with the Central Database for Taxi transport (CDT) is expected to take effect on 1 July 2025. A transition period applies until January 2028. This gives taxi businesses and drivers time to switch to the new system.

Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Lower and Upper Houses (Tweede en Eerste Kamer) of parliament. After publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch) the law can take effect.
