Driving heavy sustainable vehicles allowed with B driving licence
On this page
What changes?
Do you or your employee only have B driving licence (regular driving licence)? If you have had your regular driving licence for at least 2 years, you will be allowed to drive heavier vehicles. This only applies to sustainable vehicles powered alternatively. In general this will be an electric vehicle. The vehicle’s maximum permitted mass can be no more than 4,250 kilograms and it is not allowed to use the vehicle in combination with a trailer.
This change in law allows more people to drive an electric vehicle, which contributes to sustainability.
For whom?
- Entrepreneurs who own an alternatively powered vehicle with a maximum permitted mass between 3,501 and 4,250 kilograms. Or who want to buy a rent such a vehicle.
When?
It is not yet known when this change in the Driving Licences Regulations (Reglement rijbewijzen) will enter into force.
Internet consultation: You can give your opinion on this proposal until 11 November 2024 (in Dutch).
Please note: The effective date of this measure is not yet final. Entry into force is subject to its passing through the Lower and Upper Houses (Tweede en Eerste Kamer) of parliament. After publication in the Staatsblad or Staatscourant (Government Gazette, in Dutch) the law can take effect.
